2018: Week 7

18th February 2018
It hasn't been a particularly vintage week for photography, mainly as I have been doing DIY! The floor in the sitting room was a bit grim after the previous owners cats and dogs had "marked" it... which led ours to do the same. The carpet came out and I have laid a laminate floor (I was going to use engineered wood, but figured that the cats are getting old so I would stick with the cheaper stuff for the time being and upgrade it in a few more years time - but at least it is clean, easy to maintain and smells so much better!)

I have been test driving a D850 the last couple of days along with a 24-120 and 200-500. The DIY and weather haven't let me do much with them as yet, but early impressions are very, very good. The D800E which has been my staple for the last 7 years isn't a slouch by any standard, but the files from it's "grandson" are a different league again. The 24-120 is a "downgrade" from the 24-70, but the results are very impressive in themselves and gives me a much better range for walkabouts and the big lens should let me have a bit more of a go at wildlife and fill a gap in my portfolio.

Hopefully I will get a better week ahead, tomorrow I am off up to Bassenthwaite and have a pretty packed week beyond too. There is also the threat of some "interesting" weather after a "sudden stratospheric warming" event a few days ago which may lead to a (potentially) prolonged cold spell. We shall see though....
