Back to Normal

15th May 2017
I still miss the old, smelly dog... but life has slowly returned to an even keel after we lost him. The house still feels oddly empty and I don't know how we will feel in a few days when we say our final goodbyes.

Jake was a pretty big collie, so burying him in the garden was not really an option. Instead we had him cremated and my plan is to scatter his ashes where my Mum's are at the weekend. I am hoping that the bluebells are still out when we go, although they are past their best now. It has been an exceptionally dry few weeks so the river, beck and lake levels are right down at present.

In the days since he went we have been busy with Dakota down to visit the first weekend, Lachlan's birthday the week after - and to be honest I am now looking forward to a quiet week of relative normality. Perhaps a little mountain biking, a little guitar playing and some much needed chilling are on the cards. I have started putting together some competition entries for this year too and think I have some worthy of entry after a few years off.

So, it's back to planning new adventures for our family... and trying not to look at puppies!

Well... not too much anyway!

Oh - we had a surprise visit at the weekend from a gaggle of ducklings who came tumbling down the stream and hung out in the garden for about an hour before their mother caught up with them and took them all off back to the river.

It's great living in the countryside!
