Grange, Pancakes and New Course News

19th April 2013
First off - my beginners photography course is going for soft launch at the start of May, so I am looking for up to 4 people to be willing test pilots. Contact me via email (rob@alpinist.co.uk) if you are interested in taking part! The plan is to launch this commercially in June/July - so get in early, and get it for free!

Today has been spent in Grange Over Sands, which was rather lovely as ever and included feeding ducks with the boys and a fine picnic from one of the wonderful bakeries. I got home and took Jake out for a walk around The Gill armed with the Olympus and the often berated BCL-1580 f8/15mm Bodycap Lens. This minimal pancake lens has been called a toy and passed off as a silly gimmick by many... I disagree. It is a minimal, fun and really rather engaging little lens. It also removes a lot of the fluff from photography and forces you to work on one thing only, composition. Yes it is a very restrictive lens in many ways, but that can work well.

Indeed, it gave me some inspiration for one of the tasks in the upcoming course!

Here is today's photo, taken with the toy.

Tomorrow is the St Georges Day Festival in Ulverston, and I will try and get that mountain bike ride in too - but that may wait until Sunday, depending on when I get out of bed!
