Great Rock!

28th July 2013
Today has been... mostly... wonderful.

The rubbish bit first - lastnight we had something akin to a monsoon, the rain came through the window and seems to have killed my laptop. Not impressed, but I am going to investigate the repair options tomorrow(keyboard and battery are kaput).

Onto the more positive stuff though. Today was the day that I attended the mountain bike course which Jen bought for me as an anniversary present. A day of training with Ed Oxley from Great Rock at Gisburn. Given the overnight weather I was not expecting it to be perfect, but I was wrong. We spent the day concentrating on a few core skills on a selection of the trails at Gisburn getting cornering technique sorted, drop offs, manuals, rear wheel lifts and finishing with a brutal rocky drop off which I would never have thought I would be able to ride.

I did. As did everyone else! It took some cajoling, but the group as a whole were supportive and encouraging of one another so everyone not only tackled every obstacle (even ones so far out of the comfort range that the instilled "the fear"), but eveyone eventually cleared everything.

An absolutely superb day out on the bike which I would have no hesitation recommending to everyone and anyone! Probably the best present that I could have had too (indeed I am planning on sending Jen on the Level 1 course at some stage!).

Tonight I ache, and as soon as we can get Hamish to go to bed we shall eat (he is being challenging again tonight).
