Memories in Beautiful Places

30th September 2014
Today has been a bit rough. It has been my birthday, but the first one without my Mum. I decided to stop by where her ashes were scattered and have a chat with her there, one sided I grant you, but it was something that I felt I should do.

It is a lovely spot where her ashes are scattered though.

Now to pull myself together, and get on with life. This is a new year in some regards, although the end of 2014 can't come soon enough so I can see the back of it completely - but it is a new year in my life, leading up to a big birthday next year... I need to make the most of it, but in a positive way rather than this years running around like a lunatic and achieving nothing way.

I want to look back this time next year and think... you know what... my Mum would have been proud of what I have achieved. Whether I can pull out of this place I am now to do that though... well that remains to be seen.

Photo comment By Andrew Baskott: Hi Rob, What a beautiful image and spot, a lovely final resting place. I saw this shot with Image Brief (we've both submitted for the Eerie Woodlands brief) and so looked up your website. It's my birthday tomorrow and three years since my Mum died (9 since my Dad), so your words resonated with me a great deal. It's never easy losing a loved one, but I've found immersing myself in my photography has certainly helped, producing an image you know they would have enjoyed (usually of a place they knew well) is comforting in a way - even though you can't show it. Making a beautiful image is very satisfying but when there is real meaning behind that picture it becomes even more special (especially to you), and shows. I still miss my parents and time does heal, although there are always moments, but with photography it makes you live for the moment, whilst keeping memories of the past alive too! I've rambled so apologies, but I'm sure with pictures like this, you'll be able to leave the dark times behind. All the best, Andrew
