Springtime in Holywell Wood

11th May 2015
Today I fell upon a place called Holywell Wood and went for a very, very brief explore. With a name as evocative of an ancient past as that... well... it needed a little bit of poking around.

Unfortunately, this time, I found no evidence of an early Christian well or anything pre-Christian come to mention it. However I didn't really spend enough time getting under the skin of the place and I think another trip is needed soon to see if there are any remains to be found.

Cumbria has been largely overlooked by historians and archaeologists, not only in my opinion but also in the eyes of others whom are interested. I keep thinking someone needs to start delving into the ancient past of this county, and also exploring the folklore and legends. It may even be a job for me....

I did get some shots of some flowers though to keep the springtime feel going!
