The Meaning of Life

30th September 2017

Yes... that is it... 42. That means this year really has to be epic.

I find birthdays difficult for a whole load of reasons. They were largely ignored in the past. Then there is the guilt of a lost son, a little boy that I should have done more to protect... I failed him, and I carry that guilt with me - he never got to enjoy his birthdays. Whilst the fault for this really lies elsewhere, which is something that those more directly responsible will have to live with for the rest of their lives, I still carry my own guilt though. Throw in the loss of my Mum - and the only thing I really want for my birthday or Christmas is to be able to have a cuppa and chat with her again... even one last time... and it is generally just a day I want done with and moved on from.

This year, however, things have turned out a wee bit different. The outlaws thought what I really needed was this:

Yes, it is old (12 years) and has a lot of miles (112,000) - and hence it really wasn't an expensive car. It is, however, a proper, full fat, sports car. A 3 litre straight 6 magnesium alloy engine sits up front kicking out 264bhp to the rear wheels - which isn't a lot in the great scheme of things... but then this car is tiny and very, very light. Which means it is very, very fast!

Add some other, really thoughtful little gifts and cards and a lovely birthday cake for later on and it has turned out to be a great day! Even the sun has come out this afternoon just to make sure!

(Cocktails, Guinness Cake and Guinness - lovely! Home made burgers too....)

So - here is to the coming year! Hopefully it is going to be utterly brilliant!
