Wasn't Expecting That!

21st October 2015
Today has been spent, at least in part, in Furness General Hospital with some attention from the Orthopaedics department. I went in hoping that they would be able to find an old break, pull my leg apart and put me all back together again.

But that isn't quite what happened. The very, very good consultant poked, prodded, twisted, extended and generally manipulated both feet and ankles before proclaiming that he thought I had a birth defect relating to the non-fusing of the end of the tibia when I was young. This was a surprise to me, but he didn't seem too concerned. The future for me holds an MRI scan to get a 3D picture of the ankle (which won't happen until sometime next year), a series of exercises to build strength and stability in the meantime, and then perhaps... if it is needed, surgery to follow.

I am hoping that we can avoid the surgery, but if it is needed then so-be-it.

Given the time frames, whichever way you look at it, I think I am going to get rid of the truck and get something which puts a LOT less strain on ankle/knee joints to give everything the best chance of recovery (it was due to change anyway, but I will give pickups a miss for the next round and go with something else from the commercial sector)
